Hello everyone and welcome to my last post of this week. I wanted to share another story this week, but I couldn’t since stories take so much effort to put together. However, I got another self-development post for you guys. And, this time it’s different from what I usually post. I would like to share with you the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
Well, today I want to share my experience and what I learned that can help you practice your language skills. And I have a list of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022. These ways that I used to help me improve my skills. Keep reading to know about them!
I don’t think these are on the list of the common ways of learning a new language. Well, some of them could be. But there are fewer people who use these best ways to practice your language skills in 2022. It might not be as common as you think. But, it will help you a lot.
You can share what’s the best way you are using to practice the language skill? And I’m curious what language you think it’s most difficult to learn for you??
Best ways to practice your language skills in 2022

When you want to learn a new language and you take a course, whether at home or at school. Later, you want to see how well you did and test what you learned. This is what I meant by practicing your language skills and I will mention the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
If you want to learn fast how to speak a language, the best way is by practicing every day and as you do it, you will learn faster and faster. However, you need to have consistency otherwise, you will take longer to master the language and speak fluently, even using these best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
There are a lot of ways that we can practice our language skills and test our knowledge of the language. And today I would like to share with you the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022 that I think will help you a lot and I’m using them as well.
Remember, if you want to improve and learn a language, you will need to consider both writing and speaking. Some language has different letters than English. If you want to master it, you can use these best ways to practice your language skills in 2022 to write and speak but it would be in different ways.
The common ways of practicing language skills
- Watching movies and videos
- Listening to music
- Read newspaper in your targeted language
- Listen to podcast (This is good when you already have some good words and basics)
Well, I thought to share with you some of the common ways that everyone knows about. I think the first one is most common around the world. And we can consider it to be one of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022. I see many people do it these ways nowadays. The best way to do it is to include subtitles to understand what they are saying.
Listening to music and podcast is best when you already have the basics and you know a good amount of words. This way, you can understand a little of what they are saying. Also, you can read the lyrics as they speak to understand the pronunciation of the words. Otherwise, you just wasting your time unless you do it for fun and not to learn.
Let’s see these the other best ways to practice your language skills in 2022 and you can also do these ways along with what I mentioned above. The more ways you use, the better results you can get.
1-Include it in your daily life
You don’t have to go watch a movie or listen to something to practice. You can also translate some things you do. Things you eat in your daily life. Try to include practicing the language as much as possible. When you go shopping or walking or doing anything.
Try to translate and use them every day. It will help you a lot to keep practicing and get more words and be able to pronounce them very well. I do this on a daily basis and even people don’t know what I say. It helps me to use the words I learned haha.
Things in your room, you can translate into your targeted language and keep using the translated words almost every day as well. When you go out shopping or cook at home. So much we do in the day that we can use to practice the language we want to learn.
List of things we do:
- Cooking
- Shopping
- Cleaning
- Showering
- Hanging out with friends
- Walking the dog
- Driving
These are some of the things that we do in our day that can be one of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022. Well, you might have more things that you do, and remember to translate and use the words. Even if you won’t remember, try to translate more than one time until you remember it.
Also, by the end of the day, you can write down all the new words you translated, and then it would be easier for you to go back and just use them. Don’t need to keep translating over and over again. Because you might get bored doing these best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
It might feel heavy sometimes, but it’s okay. There is no rush and you can use it when you feel good. Just remember to stay consistent using them every day. Another solution to help when it feels heavy to practice is to lower the number of words you use.
I consider it one of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022 because you can learn so much doing this way. And we can use this in many ways that we like or want. It will help a lot to learn quicker and words that we use in daily life if we move to the country that speaks your targeted language.
2-Follow people on the internet that speak the targeted language
Sometimes it’s difficult to find people that speak your targeted language. However, the internet is full and you can find them everywhere on the internet. You can start with following famous people or companies that use your targeted language. It will help you to learn and practice at the same time.
You can also engage with them on social media and most people engage back unless it’s famous and get a lot of engagement. So, this way you can test your knowledge doing this and don’t need to be afraid to make mistakes doing this without a translator.
I say on the internet but mostly on social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. And other social media platforms. However, there are also streaming platforms that you can follow and learn one or two from them. Maybe you can watch and engage with them as well.
If you can’t find people around you, I’m sure this will help you to be surrounded by people speaking your targeted language. However, I’m sure you can find people in real life and if you do, this will be extra. So no matter what, you can do this way to practice.
Maybe you can make friends online and that will be even better than just following famous people. It’s a great way to find a lot of people that can help you practice and talk with them every day. And that’s what I did to help me practice, even though I have people in real life. The more people, the better results because you will have more people to practice with.
3-Change your phone language
Another one that helps you practice and also tests your knowledge of the targeted language you want to learn is changing your phone language to that language. And this is my favorite because it’s a challenge and you can always change it back to your native language.
There are so many words you can learn from doing this because as you browse the internet or use anything on the phone. A lot of words we use in our daily life. Therefore, it’s good to practice, and that’s why I added it to the list of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
I said it’s a challenge because a lot of people don’t like to use their phones in an unfamiliar language. The change is not comfortable, and I felt it at first. However, it’s will be worth the effort later because it will help you to get used to the words.
This also can be a way to include the language you want to learn in your daily life. And it will help you get more words as you live your day normally. And it’s like one of the things I would consider when I decide to start learning a new language. So, that’s why I mentioned on this list of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
Also, a way to see more words of the language you want to learn can be a good practice. And doing this can help you get that. Who doesn’t like this? Well, as long as you have the patience to deal with unfamiliar words, it’s a good way for anyone. At least, for me, I wouldn’t mind changing to the language I want to learn.
4-Write your grocery shopping list in the targeted language
Another good way to practice your language skills is by changing the language you used to write down the grocery shopping list in your targeted language. It’s an awesome way to learn unfamiliar words and also practice your knowledge.
It’s easy to write them using your mother tongue language, but it’s going to be worth changing the language to whatever you are trying to learn. And when you go out shopping, you learn each word and what it is. Therefore, it’s good practice.
Well, something would help you not to forget when you go out. You can indicate each item with a just short word of two letters. Something you would understand, but remember to revise it before you go out. And using translators is also another way to help you.
Because it’s not a test at the beginning when you use this method a few times. You can go out with no help and see how well you would do. It’s a good way to practice, and that’s why I added it to this list of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022
If you have time, write them twice, one using your language read the other one is the language you want to practice. At least for the first three or four times. And then later you will not need it anymore. Because by the, you will be able to know unless it’s an unfamiliar word.
Also, don’t forget to keep pronouncing the words you use. It will be for both writing and speaking. Meanwhile, you are at the store shopping and while you write them. These are the best two times you can keep pronouncing the words you put on the list. As you add unfamiliar words, keep practicing for both. But if you want to pronounce them any other time that is convenient for you, that’s ok. That’s how this can help you with writing and speaking. This is why I like these best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
5-Reading blogs on the internet
Well, a good way that you can use to improve your language. This is a good practice, but you will need time to do this easily. And that is reading blogs on your targeted language. It’s like the news, but if you don’t have paper news, you can read them on the blogs. That’s one of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
Some people might consider watching a movie but would never think of reading a blog post on the targeted language. And blogs can be also a good way to practice. If you don’t know, you can also translate the post into something you would understand. At least, when you just started learning the language. But when you learn more, you won’t have to translate anymore.
I would recommend using Google translation because you get two sides of the text. Therefore, it can be easy for you to translate what is the blogger mentioning. And it would be good to learn unfamiliar words as well when you find something new in the text. So, it’s can be one of the best ways to practice your language skills in 2022 and learn something new.
FYI
There will be tons of blogs on the internet you can read and translate. It doesn’t matter what, as long as it’s not inappropriate content for you. Keep it friendly content because you will find good words that you can use when you go outside.
The good thing about this is even if you don’t have a laptop, which I assume you have, you can do this on your phone. Wherever you go, it’s always with you. However, it might be different in the size, but I don’t think it would be a problem, anyway. That’s another thing I like about these best ways to practice your language skills in 2022.
You might find people that don’t think blogs are less nowadays, but the truth is there is a lot of new bloggers every day. And I see groups of people wanting to start a blog. However, getting a blog with the targeted language you want to learn can be different. Therefore, if you don’t find something with the language you want to learn. Try other ways on this list of the ways to practice your language skills in 2022.

These are all great ways to practice a new language! I’m currently learning Danish after moving to Denmark & being in the culture where everyone around you speaks the language is definitely helpful! However, before I moved here, I would listen to Danish music, practice with my partner & things like that.

You are spot on! I’m currently studying my sixth language (Italian), however, most of what I do to learn is listen to music/podcasts and watch movies (with subtitles), then by following others who speak the language and reading blogs.
Haha, thank you! That’s awesome, keep up the great work
Reading blogs definitely helped me the most. Listening to podcasts is also helpful. Not sure about the music though. Words in the songs are not always clear, but having lyrics by your side could do it.
That’s awesome, I’m glad it helps you!
great tips. I agree that incorporating it into your everyday life essential. changing your phone language can definitely help improve your reading & writing skills in the target language too. and following people who speak that language can help because then you can practice it with them, if they are so inclined 😉
but one thing that I don’t like about this list is that it does not focus on verbal communication. while all of these things can help improve your reading & writing skills, it might not do so with your listening and speaking. so I would go a step farther.. perhaps talk to a native speaker on video one one one.. listen to a podcast or video or tedtalk in the target language.. not just make a grocery list in the target language but use it in the store when shopping.
great post <3
