I’m grateful for everything that happened in 2021. In this week’s second post, I’m going to talk about something important in self-development. It’s how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022.
This is not decluttering your home, your room, or your work office. Well, it can be part of it, but this time it’s different. As you keep reading, you will know more about it. It’s about self-development and you can mentally and physically feel better when you feel overwhelmed.
How to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022 will not be the same as what you know decluttering a room or wardrobe. Here I’m going to mention some good tips that are going to help. And I’m sharing these from my experience and what I learned before.

Let’s talk a bit about this before jumping into the tips and how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022. I will explain what this post is about and what you guys will find about this post. And what is actually what I mean by decluttering in self-development.
So first, being overwhelmed can be from so many things in our life. However, being overwhelmed means we reached our limit, and that means only one thing. And that’s to declutter. Bear with me and I will mention to you how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022. After you read them, please tell me how do you declutter when you feel overwhelmed?
I’m sure we all have that one way that can work for us. But can’t work for other people. However, these are possible and work for almost everyone. Well, I say this because I know some people that follow this and it helps them as it helped me and maybe some things could change but still similar.
Declutter can be mentally and physically, as I said earlier. And I will talk all about it in this post about how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022. Hopefully, you find this helpful to you, and don’t forget to share your opinion and thoughts on these when you are done reading.

These tips may take time, but as you keep doing them. It will be easy. Because decluttering during the process is not as easy as we think. You can do these tips even if you feel overwhelmed during the process. And that’s mostly what this is about.
Sometimes, to feel better, you would need to do two of these. It depends on busy or overwhelmed you are at the time you want to do this. The goal of these tips about How to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022 is to feel better.
Reasons to be overwhelmed:
- So many things to do
- So many thoughts in the mind
- A lot of tasks and a short time
- A lot of work (during work hours)
- the noisy environment during work hours
- A messy place
There are a lot of reasons. Like I said earlier. However, some of them are easy to know how to declutter. And avoid getting overwhelmed. But, some of them that I’m going to mention need some work to declutter and I’m going to mention how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022.
1-Start with a short and easy
Well, let’s say you are working and you felt overwhelmed by having so much work and too many thoughts on your mind. What do you do? Well, the first thing you should do is start getting things out of the list. And warm up to work on the difficult ones.
You can do that by starting with short and easy tasks. This way, you can warm up and get things done. Some people might think it’s not as important. However, they can lift you and warm-up for the difficult and long ones. So, don’t avoid doing them if you feel overwhelmed.
This is can be a point to regain your focus and energy back. The example, you have already started, but got overwhelmed after a few hours. Well, you can stop working on the big and long ones. And go to do short ones. It will help you regain and continue.
Get the momentum of working by starting slowly. If you start complicated, it will be so busy and sometimes feel lost feeling overwhelmed by having so many things to do. And like I mentioned on the list above. The reasons to get overwhelmed.
It’s good to declutter the easy tasks first and this way, you will manage to build up the energy to work on more complicated and long tasks. Especially when you don’t feel like doing anything. Because sometimes we feel lazy to do things.
Also, the excitement to achieve your goal starts by doing smaller tasks. You would feel like you do something that will lead to success. So, it’s good to do this even with tasks and not just goals. And that way it won’t be so overwhelming to do tasks.
FYI
You can do this for long tasks as well if you do them step at a time. Start doing slow, easy steps and go for the difficult parts of finishing the task. It’s also good how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022. Don’t feel overwhelmed when you see a long task.
2-Clean place and environment
No matter what the reason, you got overwhelmed. Having a clean place and environment will always help you decrease it. So, if you want to make it less. Try cleaning your room, place, or wherever you are at the moment of feeling overwhelmed.
You will get back to thinking straight. I did this before and for some reason, my mind felt like I’m everywhere and overwhelmed. But, then when I cleaned my office. Things got better and got my thoughts and mind together.
So, I highly recommend that you focus on cleaning your room or house when you feel overwhelmed. But, it doesn’t mean that this can be a reason. Sometimes you would still feel overwhelmed and everything is well organized and clean.
Like I said before, it can be from having a messy place. And this means we should have a clean place. And clean has a different meaning. Because a clean place means everything is organized and clean from dust or anything on the surfaces at home.
Also, if your desk has too much decoration or your room. I recommend keeping it simple and moving things for a bit until you regain it. Because having too much is a reason to feel overwhelmed. But this only if you have too much on your desk or room. So many toys or so many decorations.
As you clean the room, try to organize your mind and thoughts. This way, it helps you to get your mind together as well. Don’t keep things messy in your mind. Because sometimes it can cause you to feel more overwhelmed when you keep working on the tasks. I will talk more about it next on how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022.
3-unnecessary thoughts on your mind
Another reason we can feel overwhelmed is having so many thoughts in our minds. And the way how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022 is by avoiding thinking about anything but the present. Do not think about anything and focus on what’s going on at the moment. Everything will have its moments.
Declutter anything that is not important for the moment or whatever you do. This will help you declutter and decrease feeling overwhelmed. Even though it might be from something else, it can help you get your thoughts together.
Put aside anything bothering you. Thinking about two things at the same time can also be a reason to be overwhelmed. And doing this will help you feel less overwhelmed, which can help you feel better. This is something I went through before as well.
If it’s something in the future, you can keep it for later, and if it’s something in the past. Can’t do anything but forget and move on. You can get back later to it if you want to observe information if it was something wrong you did and want to learn something from.
The first thing to do when you feel overwhelmed is to remove unnecessary thoughts from your mind. These will keep you busy and can’t focus on relaxing and doing your work. It will help a lot on how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022.
Unnecessary things could be anything, but mostly the things that can change your mood and it’s not important at the moment. These things will just let you stop working and progressing toward the goal you wanted to achieve or getting things done. 4-Limit the tasks based on how important
Last but not least is to limit the tasks. A good way how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022 is by limiting tasks by how important it is. If it’s something, can wait a bit. Then, you can keep it on the side. And later, you can come back to the ones who didn’t make it on the list of the important tasks.
I think most of us know about this and do it, but some of us can avoid doing this by thinking and can find another way. However, this is the best way to do it. Well, if you find something better for you. You can do it but, I would say do this and save time trying to do so many things.
This will help you big time if you feel overwhelmed and can’t do a lot anymore. Don’t go hard on yourself because it won’t get you so far, you know. I’m sure some tasks can wait on the list and you can just do them once you finish the important ones.
Before, I mentioned starting doing short and easy. But what if the importance is not short? Well, in this case, you can start the important and slowly work your way to finish it. Narrow it to small steps and tasks to do. If it is so many, then just warm up with short and easy. And get back to this if you want.
Before, I wanted to do so many tasks and tried to do them in a short time thinking that it will take off some of the tasks. However, I ended up feeling more overwhelmed and couldn’t do any task. Then, I had to stop for a bit to manage to get myself together again. So, I don’t recommend doing this if you want to know how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022.
5-Regular decluttering
Something you want to start in 2022 is decluttering on a weekly or monthly basis. This way, you will never feel overwhelmed. It’s good to how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022 and live a better life without any stress. Because sometimes it can be stressful and gets overwhelmed.
When you do this, it will help you a lot to keep things clean and smooth. If you stay a long time without it, it would take you so much time to declutter again. So, this will help with time as well. Sometimes we would feel overwhelmed when we see how much we need to declutter.
This year, it’s how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022 and how to have a good year. Make this year better than any year before with these tips and ways to declutter. Things that don’t belong in the process eliminate or keep them for another time.
I will be honest with you, at first, I didn’t think of this and how to declutter when you feel overwhelmed in 2022. And took me time to work on it and develop this habit. Now, I can say it’s getting better and I can manage to put myself together in some situations. So, I highly recommend that you work on it every day. Don’t expect so many results at first.

great tips, but some of them might be hard to follow. for example as part of my work my co-workers need to bring papers to my desk and somehow it’s fairly impossible for them to put those on designated drawers. so they pile them all over. And a large part of time I need to do several things at the same time 🙁

Sometimes it’s hard to pause when we’re so busy and we feel we’re wasting time doing some of the tips you provide here, but it’s so important to just stop and do it.
